As many are aware the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District announced the closure of our schools for two weeks starting on Monday and the Whitman Public Library will be closed for two weeks as well. These closures are a measure of Social Distancing as advised by both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH.) Here’s a link to why this is so critical: https://www.medium.com/@ariadnelabs/social-distancing-this-is-not-a-snow-day-ac21d7fa78b4

Social Distancing means keeping away from crowds of people, remaining six (6) feet from others when outside your home. So, as responsible community members what should you do and what shouldn’t you do?

Here’s some tips:

  • Don’t go to the movie theaters.
  • Don’t go to crowded bars, restaurants or events. Order take-out.
  • Don’t throw a party.
  • Don’t arrange playgroups for children.
  • Don’t take children to the playground.
  • Don’t organize a sporting competition even if with only a few friends.
  • Don’t take your kids to work.
  • Do take a bike ride but remain away from others doing the same.
  • Do take a hike but remain six feet away from others. Try Sandy Beach.
  • Read a book. You may contact the Library for assistance with virtual lending.
  • Cook. Learn to cook. (Buy some veggies at Holly Hill Farm)
  • Bake some goodies.
  • Do yoga at home. The Rec Department is working on providing virtual classes.
  • Meditate or learn to meditate. Do you have the Calm app?
  • Sew, knit or quilt.
  • Do some woodworking or carving.
  • Get a head start on gardening or yard work.
  • Walk your dog. How about Wheelwright Park?
  • Do some Spring cleaning.
  • De-clutter.
  • Learn a new language.
  • Do some household repairs you have been meaning to do.
  • Tackle a challenging puzzle.
  • There is always TV, social media and binge watching your favorite shows.
