You must be 18 yrs. old and a U.S. citizen. You can register in person, by mail or at the Registry of Motor Vehicles. You will receive verification by mail after registering. The Annual Census is mailed every Jan. 1st – if you do not answer it your voting status will be marked “INACTIVE” and you will not be listed on the active voting list. If you move within Town or change your name, you must re-register with the new information. A mail-in voter registration form will be sent to you if requested. You must register to vote at least 20 days prior to any election.

WHEN IS THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING AND ELECTION?
Annual Town Meeting is held on the first Monday in May. Annual Town Election is held on the third Saturday in May.
WHERE DO I VOTE?
All Whitman voters cast their ballots at the Town Hall, 54 South Ave.
HOW DO I OBTAIN A BIRTH, MARRIAGE OR DEATH CERTIFICATE?
Vital records are on file in the community where the event occurred and also in the community where residency was listed on the day of the event.
Whitman’s vital records are from 1875 to the present time.
Certified long form copies are $5.00 each. They can be requested over the counter, or by mail by sending a check for $5.00 made out to the Town of Whitman to The Town Clerk, P.O. Box 426, Whitman, MA 02382
HOW DO I LICENSE MY DOG?
Cost: Male/Female $8.00, Spay/Neuter $5.00
The licensing period is July 1st through June 30th each year. A proof of rabies certificate must be presented and proof of neuter or spay must be shown. A late fee of $5.00 is imposed on any license issued after August 31st.
A rabies clinic is held every May or June – call the Board of Health for date at 781-618-9755.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE?
Both parties must apply together.
There is a 3 day waiting period after you file your intention. The cost to file is $30.00. You cannot apply more than 60 days prior to the marriage.
HOW DO I GET A BUSINESS CERTIFICATE (DBA)?
Business certificates are $40.00 for 4 years. You and any co-owners must appear in person in the office to sign the business certificate. If any changes occur within the 4 years, or you discontinue the business, you and any co-owners must come in and file the change for a fee of $10.00
HOW DO I GET A FISHING OR SPORTING LICENSE?
In order to obtain a hunting or sporting license you must show a prior years hunting license, or a hunter safety certificate and F.I.D. card. If you are buying any license as a gift, you will need the following information:
Name, address, tel. #, color of eyes, hair, height and weight, birthplace and birthdate.
WHERE CAN I GET HELP WITH FOOD, RENT, FUEL ASSISTANCE?
The Whitman Food Pantry number is 781-447-8560.
Rent, utilities and fuel assistance is handled through the Council on Aging at 781-447-7619.
I HAVE A LARGE ITEM FOR TRASH. WHO SHOULD I CALL?
Call 1-800-791-4999 (Delprete & Sons Co.) to schedule a pick-up.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR A PASSPORT?
An application, a long form certified birth certificate and a driver’s license are needed. The fee is $110.00 payable to the Department of State and $25.00 payable to the Town of Whitman. We also take photos for $10.00. Passport hours are:
TUES: 9 A.M. – 7 P.M.
WEDS. & THURS: 9 A.M. – 3 P.M.
