Rules and Regulations for Solid Waste Curbside Collection
December 1, 2007
Household refuse will be collected once each week on an assigned day from each private residence not exceeding 3-families in any one unit, providing these Rules and Regulations are complied with. Refuse from private enterprises, commercial, industrial, profit or not-profit including apartment buildings will not be collected. Recycling will be collected weekly
COLLECTION REQUIREMENTS:
a. Solid Waste must be placed at the curb or street line by 7:00 A.M. on the assigned day of collection.
b. The town is divided into 5 sections and collection will be made in each section on designated day.
c. If a holiday falls on a collection day, refuse will be picked up the following day and one day late for each succeeding day for the remainder of that week. The same applies to cases of severe storms or other contingencies that might impede normal collection.
d. NO CALL BACKS WILL BE PERMITTED.
e. Recycling Bin MUST be put out with trash (Click Here For Recycling Materials Information)
e. Materials separated for recycling shall not be commingled with the trash.
ACCEPTABLE CONTAINERS:
a. Plastic and Metal Barrels: Shall be covered and water tight. Metal containers shall be galvanized iron, aluminum or other non-rusting metal. Barrels shall have suitable handles and capacity of not less than 20 or more than 35 gallons per container and a maximum weight of 50 lbs., with contents. Metal containers having ragged or sharp edges or any other defect tending to hamper or injure the person collecting will not be emptied. All trash must be in plastic ba
b. Plastic Bags: These must be of the type normally used for rubbish but not less than 4 mil strength, not more than 35 gal. capacity, not more than 50 lbs. when full and they must be securely tied to prevent spillage.
ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS FOR COLLECTION:
a. Rubbish: Rags, rubber, plastic toys, and the like.
b. Garbage: Fruits, vegetables, peelings food waste, animal matter, etc. Such materials must be securely wrapped before placing it with other rubbish.
c. Bulky Items: One such item per household will be accepted per week. Such items include chairs, couches, tables, mattresses, rugs, hot water tanks, doors, glassware windows, bathroom fixtures, bicycles, air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, and other similar types of household furnishes and appliances. Refrigerators doors must be removed by the owner prior to being put out for pick up. THESE MUST BE SCHEDULED WITH

d. Lumber: One bundle securely tied permitted each week. Max. length of 3 ft. and max. diameter of 1 ft.
e. Brush: One bundle securely tied permitted each week. Max. length of 4 ft. and max. diameter of 3 ft.
NON-ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:
a. Ashes from coal or wood stoves, stone, rocks, bricks, broken pavement, stumps and other unsuitable fill materials.
b. Demolition wastes, including but not limiting to roofing, siding, timber, plaster, laths, glassware windows*, doors*, flooring, bathroom fixtures* and similar materials*.

c. Televisions and computer monitors require permit and are to be taken to D.P.W. yard with permit. FEE $ 10.00 per item.
