Department Description:
The primary function of the Building Department is to enforce State Codes relative to building, renovation, remodeling, demolition, and change of use of habitable and non-habitable structures. Each code is unique and is derived from Massachusetts General Laws and /or town Ordinances. All are designed for public protection to ensure the health and safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth. The Building Department issues permits for building, plumbing, gas fitting, and electrical.
The Building department enforces zoning ordinances and assists with applications to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
