When do I need a building permit?
A building permit is required to construct, reconstruct, alter, repair, remove, or demolish a building or equipment regulated by the building code. A permit is required for the installation of a swimming pool, a wood or pellet stove, and accessory buildings (sheds).

Permits for both new construction and additions/alterations (which include sheds, gazebos and decks) are available at the Building Department on the lower level of Town Hall.

A permit is not required for a fence less than 8 feet in height
Is a permit required for a shed?
A detached accessory building requires a permit, if the shed is more than 120 square feet, a foundation is required. A shed must be at least 10 feet from the house and at least 10 feet from the property line.
Is a permit required for a wood stove?
A permit is required for the installation of solid fuel appliances including wood and pellet stove as well as inserts for existing fireplaces
